The Tottenham Hotspur transfer news continues to take the Premier League by storm, as Spurs are continuing their busy summer transfer window after securing the services of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke for a fee of £52 million.
The Dutch international, currently away at the FIFA World Cup 2026, has signed for Spurs in a deal plus a sell-on clause, as the North London outfit looks to recover from last season’s disappointing 17th-place finish.
This move will see the Netherlands defender reunite with former club manager Roberto de Zerbi, under whom he played with the Seagulls.
Van Hecke had one year left on his contract and seemed unlikely to renew his deal, thus paving the way for the Tottenham Hotspur transfer business to swoop in and sign the defender.
The defender proved pivotal for the Seagulls last season (starting 36 of 38 games) as the club finished in eighth place and consequently secured European football for the 2026/27 season.

Further up the field, the club intends to open talks with German champions Bayern Munich in a bid to sign Joao Palinha outright.
The midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell and looked to have convinced the club’s hierarchy to sign him permanently, as the club values him as a potential £26 million signing.
Meanwhile, talks with Manchester City are at an advanced stage, as Spurs eye the possible addition of Savinho to their squad for approximately £60 million.
Meanwhile, defender Ben Davies has signed a new one-year deal with the club, while midfielder Yves Bissouma is set to leave following the expiration of his contract in the summer.
De Zerbi will be looking to avoid injuries and keep his players fit to avoid a repeat of last season’s calamities. Injuries to key players – coupled with a loss of form and confidence – saw them dragged into a relegation fight they only escaped by the skin of their teeth on the final day.
At its injury peak, Spurs had more than 10 senior players unavailable, including summer signings Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, along with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, and Wilson Odobert, something they will be looking to avoid next season.
